I fell in love with travel at an early age. It all started at 17 when I spent the summer in England with my Great Aunt Hattie, a retired Superintendent of Schools who resided in Colchester. I toured the British countryside and traveled to France.
From that summer I knew I was hooked on travel and decided to make it my career.
I joined an international charter airline as a flight attendant and traveled the world. Often I was able to pop in on my aunt and surprise her for tea! As Aunt Hattie said, “My dear, the Atlantic Ocean has become a lake for you.”
After the time I spent with the airline it was only natural for me to work in a travel agency. I wanted to continue to experience the thrill of visiting a place I’d never been before and the joy of helping others share the same experience.
I opened Preferred Travel in 1980 and the agency continues to accomplish its goal of helping people see the world.
At the same time I opened the agency I completed my accreditation as a Certified Travel Consultant and became a member of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA). I also joined the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and Airline Reporting Corporation (ARC).
I’ve been very fortunate over the years to achieve many awards and certifications.
One I’m most proud of is being chosen as “Best of the Press” for nine straight years -- from 2001 through 2010.
As if running my own business isn’t enough, my husband, John Giemza, keeps me busy helping him with ideas for his business, Circle Liquors, in Somers Point.
We started a local wine education course which originally was for women called Grape Expectations. It’s been well received and now due to public demand we have included men to join the women wine fans in the Linwood, Northfield, Somers Point, and Ocean City regions.
The club meets several times a year and has had internationally acclaimed wine speakers from various wine regions of the world. Presentations have covered a range of topics that help wine drinkers develop their overall understanding of wine as well as their ability to pair wines well with food.
Here at Preferred Travel we’re in the process of putting together tours to visit popular wine destinations like Tuscany and the Napa/Sonoma Region in northern California.
What better way to learn about specific types of wine then to actually visit the regions where they’re made. You can watch and learn about the entire wine making process from growing and harvesting grapes and making the wine to sampling food from the region. Many clients have expressed an interest in cooking classes while visiting Tuscany and Napa/Sonoma as well. And of course there’s the beauty of the areas themselves.
While John and I have demanding schedules running two busy businesses (and squeezing in as much travel as possible), we make time for charity work too.
We love animals and are the proud parents of three dogs from rescue organizations. We’re active with many humane societies and other charitable organizations.
I believe when you work hard it’s important to take care of yourself. That’s why I’m very committed to exercise. It helps me manage my stress and stay healthy. I love Pilates and attend classes several times a week at the Pilates Studio in Ventnor and also belong to a local gym.
I also marry my love of physical activity with my love of travel and I escort groups to resorts and spas that offer many opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors as much as possible. Whether hiking or kayaking or attending a class at a local fitness center or on board a cruise ship, it’s amazing how you can stay fit while traveling.
It’s also a great way to meet other travelers.
About Preferred Travel
For well over 30 years Preferred Travel has remained dedicated to providing the finest travel planning service to our clients.
As a full service travel agency we’re able to provide for the needs of a broad array of travelers including:
Our Travel Consultants are very experienced. In fact some of our agents have been with us since the beginning, with over 30 years of service. That’s tremendous loyalty to the company and our clients benefit from the consistency of dealing with the same travel agents.
As I mentioned previously, we’ve been honored to have been awarded the “Best of the Atlantic City Press” for the last 9 straight years.
One of the reasons I think we’ve received this award so often is our dedication to staying on top of the travel trends and our participation in “familiarization tours” to stay on top of new hotel properties, cruise ships, and the latest “in” destinations.
We also stay on top of how perennial favorites continue to do in order to make sure they’re still the finest destinations and worthy of your hard earned money.
It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it for you!
The dedicated agents of Preferred Travel and I look forward to talking with you to discuss your next relaxing vacation, group event, or business trip.
